![]() Amelie’s neighbor, “The Glass Man”, also seems to at one point have been a world traveler. Amelie’s apartment is full of tiny nick -knacks, each with their own story I’m certain. The city felt like a place where you go on vacation and while there you can instantly write an award winning novel. One scene in particular, Amelie is walking along the cobblestone roads to her fathers and I instantly had a feeling of needing to add this city to my travel bucket list. The city seems like it was frozen in time from thousands of years ago, with the new addition of transportation. The town is very quaint along with the buildings which it inhabits. ![]() The movie takes place in Montmartre, which is a small elevated area north of Paris, France. Jeunet constructed a world full of oddball characters (dressed in whimsical clothing), a screen filled with bright colors and a town that seems like a child’s dream come to life. As I watched the film I felt that director, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, was trying to portray a cartoon come to life. Often daydreaming up the most elaborate ideas, even into adulthood, she found company within in her own mind. As a child who spent her days in solitude she found that her imagination was her best friend. This 2001 French film tells the story of a young twenty something, Amelie, who makes it her life’s mission to help others. ![]() It was a film that hit on all cylinders, for me. After watching Amelie I left the classroom just feeling all warm and fuzzy. As someone who loves a good film, I find it rare to find one that has ALL the qualities I search for in a film: heart, comedy, a good message, and just plain sweet. The spell that a film can have on its audience can be a powerful one. Every once in awhile you find a film that makes you just feel good.
